But... How Do I KNOW For Sure That I'm Getting Messages From The Other Side?
When you start channeling, one of the most common hurdles people face is trusting the messages they receive. It’s totally normal to question whether what you’re hearing, feeling, or seeing is real. After all, it’s new, right? But here’s the thing: you already have everything you need to trust yourself. You’ve just got to learn how to listen - and believe… without second-guessing.
So what gives? Why is it so hard to trust ourselves?
We’ve all been there. That moment when you get a gut feeling or a message that seems to come from out of nowhere. You know it’s something important, but then doubt creeps in. “Was that just me thinking too much?” or “Maybe I’m just imagining things.” So, why is it so hard to trust your intuition or the messages you receive from the other side? Let’s cover a few reasons.
1. You’ve Been Taught to Be Logical
We live in a world that highly values logic, reason, and tangible evidence. From a young age, we’re taught to rely on what we can see, touch, and prove. This creates a bias toward the rational mind, which often suppresses our natural intuitive abilities.
When you receive messages, especially from the other side, it can feel like your mind is telling you, “That doesn’t make sense. How could that be real?” The voice of doubt comes from a place of conditioning that prizes logical thinking over spiritual knowing.
But here’s the thing: your intuition and the messages from spirit often don’t come with a rational explanation or a proof you can hold in your hand. They don’t always make sense immediately. And that’s okay! You don’t need a spreadsheet of facts to back up a spiritual experience. And you don’t need to prove to anyone that you have had these experiences either. In fact, you may want to keep your circle small for a bit while you’re building your trust muscle.
2. Society Devalues Intuition As Impractical or Silly
From childhood, many of us are told to follow a certain path… the path that looks practical, measurable, and “successful” in the eyes of society. You’re taught to be logical, to focus on the material world, and to disregard anything that isn’t concrete or provable.
Spirituality, intuition, and even mediumship are often dismissed or labeled as woo-woo or impractical. When we grow up in a culture that praises scientific facts over spiritual experience, it’s easy to question the validity of what you sense, feel, or hear in your gut.
But here’s a secret: Intuition is practical. It’s the inner GPS that can guide you through life’s twists and turns, helping you make decisions with greater clarity and ease. It’s just as real as any “rational” path you’re told to follow… sometimes even more so!
3. People Don’t Believe What They Can’t Literally See Or Hear
One of the biggest reasons people struggle to trust their intuition or channeling abilities is that the messages aren’t always obvious - meaning, you won’t always hear them, or see your guides or dear old grandad sitting down talking to you face to face from the other side… (though some will on occasion!) Guides and Spirits don’t usually show up with flashing neon signs or loud voices that make it clear exactly what to do next.
Instead, they often communicate in gentle nudges, whispers, and symbols - intuitions and small, simple breadcrumbs are left in the right places, at the right time.
For instance, you might feel an inner nudge to take a specific action, but there’s no immediate reason why you should. Or, you may see a symbol in your mind’s eye, but you’re unsure what it means. Often, guides and loved ones speak in metaphors, feelings, or impressions, which are easy to dismiss because they don’t always fit into the way we think things should happen.
This is tough in a culture that doesn’t believe in or value what it cannot see or hear.
This is also where trust comes in: Over time, as you practice and allow yourself to lean into your intuitive hits, you begin to recognize that these subtle messages are often far more accurate than the loud, obvious ones you expect.
4. You’re Afraid You’re Making it Up
Many people fear that they’re just making things up or that they’re imagining messages. This fear is totally normal, but it’s also the result of not having been taught how to trust the process. We’ve been conditioned to rely on external sources for guidance and validation, rather than listening to our inner knowing. I mean… I KNOW I struggled with it, and still do sometimes.
The fact that you’re even questioning if the message is “real” means you’re truly tuned in! If you didn’t receive it or feel it in the first place, you wouldn’t be asking because there’d be nothing to ask about. It’s like receiving a text and then doubting whether it’s actually from a friend because it didn’t sound exactly like them. The message still came through: your doubt doesn’t invalidate it.
5. The Need For Proof
We live in a world that thrives on validation, and often, the validation for spiritual experiences doesn’t come in the form we expect. People want to see results, feel the impact, or get confirmation from others before they truly believe something is real. But spiritual messages, especially from the other side, don’t always have that immediate “proof” or tangible results.
Here’s the thing: trust is built over time. The more you begin to receive guidance and act on it, the more you will see how these messages align with your life in unexpected ways. Over time, the messages will become clearer, and the trust will deepen.
6. The Voice Of Fear is Louder Than Faith Sometimes
Another layer of self-doubt comes from an inner critic that tells you, “I’m not special enough to be receiving messages from spirit. I’m not a psychic or a medium… .who am I to tap into this?”
But guess what? You’re a human being, and everyone has the ability to connect with spirit and receive guidance. You don’t have to be “special” to tap into your intuitive abilities. This is a natural skill that everyone has, but it requires practice and self-compassion to cultivate.
So, What Can You Do to Start Trusting Your Intuition?
• Start small: Ask simple questions and tune in. The more you practice, the easier it becomes to trust what you’re hearing or feeling.
• Let go of perfection: The messages you receive don’t have to be “perfect” or completely clear. Trust the process, even when you feel uncertain.
• Pay attention to the feeling: When you receive a message, how does it feel? Does it bring a sense of calm or reassurance? Does it feel light and expansive? Trust those feelings.
• Be patient with yourself: Remember, this is a journey. Trust builds over time, just like any new skill.
Final Thoughts: You Have the Power to Trust Yourself
You are capable of receiving messages, tapping into your intuition, and trusting the guidance from the other side. It’s a process of unlearning the doubts and conditioning that have been instilled in you and relearning how to trust the natural wisdom you already carry inside.
Remember, intuition isn’t just for the special few: it’s a natural ability everyone has. And the more you trust your intuition and deeper wisdom, the clearer the messages will become. ✨
